Communication Protocol

Download the inSure App for IOS or Android, see the Installation and Operation Manual

The inSure device utilizes Bluetooth connectivity with the CW inSure App to calibrate the unit and provide live valve status of pressure events including time, temperature, battery voltage, valve open or closed, % open, and lift. This data can then be used to calculate volume of relief event emissions. Each unit can store 180MB of data that can be exported from the app.

Wired or Wireless Distributed Control System (DCS) Communication with your DCS is achieved through multiple protocols. The product offers a wired 4-20mA version, and WirelessHART® or ISA100WirelessTM for wireless connectivity. Refer to the Installation Operation and Maintenance Manual for more information.

Directional Control Valves

Functionality & Power

Directional control valves allow fluids or gases to flow into different paths from valve ports, which provide a passageway for flow to or from other components/sources. They are one of the most important parts of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

A directional control valve consists of a mechanically or electrically actuated spool inside a cylinder. The spool’s position allows or prevents fluid flow within the passageway; this often occurs instantly, causing fluid to accelerate and decelerate rapidly.

Direction Control Valves Ports & Positions

When selecting a directional control valve, two primary elements must be considered: the number of ports and directional positions the valve can achieve. The number of positions refers to the number of flow paths a valve can provide.

Directional Control Valve Applications

Mobile Hydraulic Directional Control Valves are used in the Agricultural, Industrial, and Mobile industries to provide smooth operation, low-pressure drop, and rapid response for precise fluid control in a lightweight constructed valve. These valves are rated at 2000 psi and flows to 10 GPM. Their applicability makes them increasingly sought after and are used in many applications, such as:

  • Car carriers
  • Machinery - Tractors
  • Assembly lines
  • Energy production
  • Marine equipment
  • Construction machines
  • Mining machines
  • Material handling cranes
  • Trucks & Rigs

EXPANSION RELIEF VALVES: FUNCTIONALITY & PURPOSE

Expansion relief valves, also referred to as PRV’s, pressure relief valves, or safety valves, are designed to protect system tanks from overpressure, therefore a vital component.  Overpressure can be caused by several things, including failure of an expansion vessel or a pressure-reducing valve.

PRESSURE TESTING

Carrying on pressure tests on systems consists of adjusting the valve set pressure, performing a seat l,eakage test and a backpressure test. The set pressure test is always performed first.

For information on how to perform pressure testing, please see the related document.

APPLICATIONS & INDUSTRIES

Expansion relief valves are used in a range of industry demanding applications where pressure levels are critical for operation. Applications and industries include:

  • Oil and gas
  • Petrochemical
  • Power generation (using steam, air, gas or liquid.)

Air pressure relief valves, also known as PRVs or safety release valves, are installed to prevent pressure buildup. The valve opens slowly to release pressure when the level becomes too high.

If the pressure within an air compressor system gets too high, one of the components inside could explode. Essentially, pressure relief valves are designed to prevent uncontrolled depressurization events from occurring, protecting surrounding nearby equipment and employees during overpressure events.

To carry out a backpressure test, follow the following steps:

  1. The backpressure test applies to all valves designed to discharge to a closed system, including valves with plain caps and packed lever assemblies.
  2. Test the secondary pressure zone of all valves exceeding 1" inlet size with air or other suitable gas at a pressure of at least 30 psi. Use a suitable leak detection solution to verify tightness of all gasket joints and vent/drain plugs.
  3. If leakage is detected at any location, rework the valve to eliminate the leak path.

Expansion relief valves are often known as pressure relief valves and for a good reason. They come with a preset pressure built into their design to ensure once the valve recognizes the pressure limit, it opens to release the pressure-flow (fluid of compressed air) safely.

It’s advisable to permanently mount pressure relief valves in a vertical position so the spindle sits correctly and can operate effectively. Overtightening the valve can cause damage to the inlet and cause leakage too. For the inlet piping, keep it short and direct, it should have a shorter diameter than the valve, and it should always be far away from turbulence or vibration in the operating system.

A pressure relief valve can encounter overpressure or failure for many reasons, but the most common reasons are typically blocked discharge in the system, contaminants like dirt, rust, or sludge, or even valve misalignment can cause the pressure relief valve to fail. Maintenance and proper inspection periodically can help eliminate leakages, allowing a safe environment for operation and the operators.

PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE - DESIGN & OPERATION

Farris’s pressure relief valves are designed to automatically protect your equipment against excessive overpressure. The Series 2600 pressure relief valves are designed to function equally well on air, gases, steam, or liquid service.

The pressure relief valve design incorporates several features which allow this valve to take a maximum amount of piping strain without hampering the functional characteristics of the valve or contributing to serious leakage.

STRENGTH & TIGHTNESS

The superior strength built into the body of the Farris pressure relief valve to resist these discharge piping strains materially reduces the deflection and distortion in the valve and reduces the leakage encountered, when at times, discharge piping strains become excessive.

The valve is engineered for exceptional tightness because of positive alignment, a high strength disc design, the elimination of thermal distortion and

optimum seating surface finish.

NOZZLE DESIGN

The Farris full nozzle pressure relief valve design incorporates a nozzle shape to provide:

  1. A high stable flow coefficient.
  2. Greater strength to resist possible discharge piping strains.
  3. Wrenching provisions on raised face nozzles where they will not interfere with the flow path.

The superior design allows easy maintenance by simplifying nozzle removal and assembly.

When choosing a pressure relief valve, the factors you should consider before selecting are:

  • Service/Application
  • Connection size and type
  • Set pressure & back pressure
  • Temperature
  • Required capacity

The three most common types of relief valves are:

  • Conventional spring-loaded
  • Balanced spring-loaded
  • Pilot operated

An air pressure relief valve, also known as a pneumatic pressure relief valve, controls air within a compressed air system.

It is a valve that is designed to detect and prevent changes in pressure which could lead to damage and failure in a number of applications. If the desired pressure is exceeded, the valve releases the excess pressure.
